Thanks very much to everyone who has shown an interest in our group guided walk at the Red Moss Bog in Balerno, an important biodiversity site, on Saturday 3 October. Please note thatdogs are not permitted to join. We are planning to make this a car share outing to make the event as accessible as possible to anyone who may not have a means of transport, so would be very grateful if those with cars would be willing to give lifts to those without. The walk will be led by ecologist Dr Ian Edwards, who will give everyone an insight into Scotland’s climate and vegetation history over the past 6000 years, and the opportunity to consider what needs to be done to ensure the biodiversity of the site continues to thrive into the future. There is also a variety of flowering plants, ferns, mosses, lichen and fungi to explore, a dynamic ecosystem that demonstrates the resilience of Nature and provides us with hope for the future.

The walk will last around 1.5 hours (from around 11:30 to 1) and will be on level ground. It will end in the bird hide overlooking Bavelaw nature reserve, so please feel free to bring binoculars if you have them.
